Certified Nursing Assistant

A Certified Nurse Aide, or CNA, is a medical professional who provides personal care and performs basic nursing skills for adults. Emphasis is placed on the aging process (including mental, social, and physical needs of the elderly), patient’s rights, nutrition management, elimination procedures, safe environment, restorative services, personal and special care procedures and activities, human body structure/function and related common diseases/disorders, communication and documentation, death and dying, and roles of the nursing assistant and health team members.

We are approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing  for Nurse Aide I (CNA I).

The Nursing Assistant Program is a one hundred (120) hour approved course which provides the core knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality health care to residents in nursing homes, assisted-living facilities and to hospital patients. Students will be taught the proper way to move residents/patients and the basics of personal care, feeding and bathing. Other skills include taking vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure) and proper emergency protocol.

Externship
Students are placed in a Skilled Nursing facility where there is an opportunity to observe, assist, learn, and perform patient services as outlined in the approved curriculum. The externship is an essential component of the program where theoretical and practical skills are integrated. Specific objectives, including cognitive, affective, and psychomotor behaviors must be met for students to pass.
